Tara Llanes Classic: Going on right now

The Tara Llanes Classic provides world-class competition for both amateurs and pros. Proceeds from entry fees, sponsorships, and donations to benefit the Tara Llanes Road to Recovery Foundation, the Reeve-Irvine Research Center (RIRC), and new for 2011 is C.O.R.E – the Center for Restorative Exercise. It"s a great cause and we can"t wait to witness it first hand. These organizations are instrumental in the treatment and therapy of spinal cord injuries, and helping injured mountain bike athletes return to competition.

The Tara Llanes Classic was started by Brian and Thayne Bolin to help raise funds for Downhill pro Tara Llanes and her ever-growing medical costs after the champion mountain biker suffered a horrific crash that resulted in below the waist paralysis. Since then Tara has made phenomenal progress and is now able to both help organize the Tara Llanes Classic and participate as a rider in a 4-wheel DH bike.

“Each year we’ve attracted more and more racers, so having this one place with all the information makes things that much easier for everyone,” said race organizer Tara Llanes. “Our site gives you the schedule of events over the two days of competition, explains what the courses are like, and tells you how to become a volunteer.”

Two races, added just this year have significantly increased competitor interest.  A Cross Country and a Pearl Izumi Industry Cup race join the established Mega DH event that has drawn hundreds of pros and amateurs to Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort over early fall weekends the last two years. The free entry Shimano Kid’s Race, a fan favorite, will once again be a part of the Tara Llanes Classic weekend.
