The new minimus jacket from Montane lives up to its name, barely bothering the scales at 215g, and when stashed in its own net bag it’s about the size of a generous slab of chocolate cake. It’s not light on features though, with a drawstring waist and collar, Velcro cuffs and a wire-peaked hood alongside a cavernous front stash pocket.
The hood can be rolled down too, thanks to a clever Velcro fastening tag. The Minimus’ trump card is its wind-resistant Pertex construction. It keeps water out and weight to a minimum while allowing a bit more breathability than you’ll get from your average boil-in-the-bag windbreaker. It’s not a bike-specific jacket, so there isn’t a lower-cut rear panel to keep your bum free from mud and crud, but the longer arms keep you covered well when you’re stretched out in the saddle, and when not on the bike you can rock the hood up and ‘enjoy’ the rain.
