This is a jacket with a seriously bombproof feel. Made from a three-layer waterproof fabric, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to learn from the blurb that the Sync is styled after serious mountain wear. There are storm flaps over all zips, a peaked hood and the seams are positioned to reduce abrasion if you’re wearing a pack. That translates to a jacket that, with its low-key looks, is most at home on a commute. Although there is a bike-specific longer back and sleeves, the cut is relatively generous, which meant we were as likely to throw it on over jeans as bike kit – and it looks as good with both.

The hood doesn’t quite fit comfortably under or over a helmet – it’s more for off the bike in our opinion – and the shoulder room is better in a more upright than stretched-out position in the saddle. The weight is either reassuring or on the heavy side, depending on your activity. We wouldn’t choose this for high-octane trail rides, but for slower, multi-stop outings or commuting you’ll feel very prot
