The TaperBore profile has been massaged to deliver better modulation when deep into the stroke because racers want strong braking, but not locked up wheels and improved bleeding. You can still lock the wheels if you want to but the touch and feel of braking deep into turns is very impressive.
The weight is also kept low with titanium bolts for the split bar clamps and Torx rotor bolts. We didn’t miss the pad contact adjustment and we shortened the hoses and didn’t need to re-bleed the brakes. We did anyway, which was a breeze. We like the new top-load calliper design, for quicker and easier changes.
Should you run to the shops now and buy a set of these lightweight anchors? Probably not, unless having the absolute lightest brakes is crucial to your very being. For the cash in our pocket we’d opt for the cheaper and frankly still racy light £149 350g Avid Elixir 7s.
